About DevotionalCafe.com DevotionalCafe.com was founded in 2006 by me - Debbie Weaver. The mission of this site is to spread the good news of God through the "Uplift Daily" devotional newsletter and to give a percentage of the site's profits to "Save the Children" - a charity that supports children in need. This site was inspired by a period in my life filled with hardship and frustration. However, those hard times proved to be a blessing in disguise as I learned the true secret to success and happiness in life... Several years ago, my husband and I seemingly had it all - nice home, good income, a healthy child, an entertaining lifestyle, etc. But, after many years of living comfortable and taking life for granted, we received a rude awakening when my husband developed kidney failure and had to go on dialysis. He was forced to go out from his job on disability as he awaited a kidney transplant. After a year, the job was no longer obligated to him and released him. The disability checks stopped coming and suddenly we were at risk to lose it all. We had gone from riches to rags. From the penthouse to the outhouse. The business world knows no sympathy - it bleeds money green. The banks, attorneys, bill collectors, and every other collector you can think of were knocking at our door. Bankruptcy was looming. The stress and money problems began to affect our marriage. It was truly the worst times of our life. You may think this can't happen to you, but the truth is it could happen to anyone. Many people are just one paycheck away from losing their homes. Whether it be health issues, a lawsuit, a natural disaster, an accident, or whatever - nothing is guaranteed in life. The only thing that kept us together as a family and helped us pull through was our faith in God. It was God's grace that helped us discover the secret that changed our lives. This secret may not seem like a secret to you. Actually you have heard of it before. However, the real secret is in applying what I'm about to tell you rather than just understanding it. Ok, here it is - the secret that turned our lives around and inspired this website: Whenever possible, help other people. You must give without expecting anything in return. The benefit to you is in the giving. Help without being asked and help without keeping a tally. The most successful people in the world today know that what you give away comes back to you ten fold. "Give and it will be given to you. A good measure, pressed down, shaken together and running over, will be poured into your lap." --Luke 6:38 NIV Zig Ziglar said, "You can get everything in life you want - if you help enough other people get what they want." Brian Tracy put it this way "Successful people are always looking for opportunities to help others. Unsuccessful people are always asking, 'What's in it for me?'" So the question has to be are you giving? Are you giving what you want in return which boils down to the old phrase do unto others as you would be done unto yourself. What this means is offering to help people, don't wait to be asked, people don't ask for what they want. Always be on the lookout for people you can help, for little things that you can do that might mean big things to others. It's taken me a long long time to realize that the most successful people that I know are people that will help everyone and anyone. The people that when they see you struggling with something will jump in and do it for you. These same people, because they help everyone, also know everyone so they always know somebody that will help with your problem even if they can't fix it themselves. These people give without the expectation of reward. These people give without keeping a tally of favors given and returned. These people are happier because happiness comes from giving. When you make somebody else happy by helping with a problem you become happy. If you give happiness you get happiness. So your prescription to lifelong happiness & success is:
